Remote video assistance
El.Ma. employs a massive array of highly advanced technologies as far as the choice of functional solutions and the management and control of systems; innovative solutions generally involve the working and the assemblage of pieces.
The configuration of the line in mechanical and electronic terms, and in this last case, would be at the hardware level more so than software.
It is obvious that the more the line and in general the system becomes complex, the more difficult it becomes to set up and provide on-site assistance, with the necessity to insert highly qualified personnel integrated with specialized mechanical and electronic knowledge.
If everything isn’t working perfectly, the efficiency of the machine is greatly penalized and therefore the production and trust of the client can both decay in very penalizing ways.
In fact the integration of remote video assistance becomes effective with each operating unit, including both working and movement units. It is even realized with commercial groups, which do not hold account of the often medium to low preparation conducted with the machines systems, however it is still an integrated system of high complexity, which requires multidisciplinary preparation.
In the end, in order to overcome this type of problematic situation, intervention is followed according to two guide lines, of equal priority, with each mutually connected:
- The annulment of points and areas of which the operator, pertaining to the final customer, could not have intervened without a secure success;
- It is assured that in case of any inconvenience, which could involve all that can be considered hardware, the identity of the operator would be given: Operator user = technical constructor staff (in all of the requested specializations).
The production system however, had to endure an upgrade. Researching a new generation of components, that, even if mechanical, could have been used with similar electronic methodologies, trying to take the maximum advantage of the technology that was in a position to be put to use.
It’s on a new philosophy of machines, easily programmable, adjustable and maintainable with operations executed “On-Line”, that El.Ma. has set up the Remote video assistance project in 2004.
Remote video assistance executes monitoring the system thanks to a system of digital tele-cameras and the transmitting of images at high velocity across a network with adequate bandwidth, by means of opportune hardware and application software tools.
The structure of the remote video assistance system can be diagrammed as follows:
The function of the machine, or of one of it’s parts, becomes analyzed against the tests of informative data, which are represented through cycle-grams of machine logic. This finally becomes correlated with the transmitted images, in real time or differential (if the phenomenon being analyzed has a longer duration), and the frames of film and cycle-grams are synchronized, in terms that represent the logic states.
At the base of the remote video assistence technology you find the consideration is placed with the quality of the transmitted images which constitutes a fundamental requirement to guarantee the effectiveness of service.
In particular it is necessary that the furnished images have an adequate level of resolution and that the same time permit the real-time observation of the movement of mechanical components in the most detailed way possible.
Based on these considerations and actual experience El.Ma. chose to utilize a teleconferencing system based on the h.261 protocol, which furnishes an adequate quality of service for the described requirements across a high bandwidth internet connection and guarantees a maximum frame rate of 30 fps.
Remote video assistance monitoring is effected by installing two video conferencing machines: one is connected to the clients internal network visible over a line on a public IP address, the other is connected to the El.Ma. internal network.
A digital video cam is integrated, also included is an additional camera connected across a wireless connection.
As far as our internet connection is concerned, El.Ma. is enabled with a standard ADSL; eventually El.Ma. can use a wireless connection across a UMTS network, that permits high bandwidth connections even with mobile systems, and give the possibility to communicate point to point independent of location, terminals, means of transport, and the technology used.
