Isera project: stationary and distributed energy generation
The most important aspect of the plant is the use of technical solutions with zero nature impact. Moreover the location of the plant, sourrounding by the countryside, shows how nature and technologies can co-exist harmoniously.
The project took part to Premio Innovazione 2006 Legambiente.
Isera demonstrative plant operation
El.Ma. has realized for Isera a system of photovoltaic modules assembled on forms called PV-Lander, with a peak-power of about 8KWp, which, if it's required, provide to supply the electrolyzer for the Hydrogen production.
The gas is compressed and stored with a pression of max 35 bar in tanks of 1 m3.
The plant is organized in order to have a permanent completly loaded storage.
The electrolyzer can have a double supply, both by the photovoltaic system and by the mains power.
The hydrogen picked up from the tanks is used to supply two generators with cells of 10 KWel both alcaline with liquide electrolyte and polymeric with solide electrolyte.
The electrical generator fuel cells is supplied also with hydrogen produced by the hydrolisys of a hydrure in solution (sodium-borohydride).
The HOD Hydrogen generator, realized in collaboration with Millenium Cell, allows to generate, only if it is necessary, pure hydrogen safetly; it is characterized by an atmospheric pressure and a room temperature with a salt, like borace, as remaining, that can be used for the industry or recycled for the hydrogen recharging.
From the reaction with the water, in presence of a catalyst and without the need of electrical energy, sodium-borohydride releases the hydrogen it contains. This quantity of hydrogen will double by the hydrogen created from the water in which the salt is watered down.
The certainty of the continuity in the electrical energy supply in case of black-out and a high avalaibility are guaranteed by the generators with AFC and PEM.
The two technologies allow to test the following hypothesis:
- The AFC work with higher reliability and efficiency and consequently they are very suitable to the stationary power generation;
- The PEM are smaller and have a lower efficiency as the AFC.
The plant is controlled in local and remote (on internet through ethernet connection) thanks to the control of process CN2 completly realized by El.Ma., both the hardware and the software.
The control system contains all the alarms and safe dispositives, in case of plant damages or hydrogen escape. The control system contains:
- the connection of photovoltaic modules to the mains;
- the supply of the electrolyzer by the photovoltaic system and by the net - the Hydrogen storage;
- the production of hydrogen by the S-B-H with the supply for the cells;
- the supply of the back-up lines by fuel cells generator, in case of general black-out. The local control system can be also put in remote to test parameters of the plant working.
